Veteran Suicide Prevention Run

Tomorrow we’ll take up for those who have paid a heavy price.  September is suicide prevention awareness month and there is a special segment of the population we’ll focus on, veterans.  The VA estimates that 22 veterans take their own lives each day.  Many of these Americans suffer from PTSD or a traumatic brain injury which they sustained while serving us.  Let’s take this opportunity to help out in a special way.  There are two things we can do tomorrow.  First, we can help end the stigma of mental health treatment by changing the way we think and speak about it.  One of the biggest barriers to seeking mental health treatment is overcoming the barrier of considering what everyone else will think about it.  Change the way you talk to family and friends about treatment, you can make a real difference this way!  Second, we can donate to a great local non-profit, Healing4Heroes.  H4H’s mission is to connect wounded service members (to include PTSD and TBI) with certified service dogs.  Read a great article about them here: http://www.times-herald.com/local/20140831-coco-s-cupboard-wounded-warriors

We’re asking that each runner donate $2 for each mile they run.  The cash will be hand delivered to Piper at H4H who has been so kind in sharing information about their program.  Show up tomorrow and help make a difference. You know how we do.

Here are the run options:

5:30 – Drake 60 minutes led by Scott Porter

6:30 – Drake 45 minutes led by Josh Shelton

7:15 – Drake 45 minutes led by Josh Shelton

This sure would be a great day to bring a friend!

Sweat is the remedy that our enemies have chosen, and I say let us give them all they want.

Due to the Divas® Half Marathon tomorrow, we won’t have any divas running with us.  The sexist assault on man runners will occupy the south with their segregated event while we hold strong in the north.  Our double looped north end runs will start at 6:30 and 7:30 from Drake.  As always, ALL sexes welcome.

The first loop will explore the strong industrial complex enjoyed by the north.  We’ll visit Blue Smoke Trial via Appomattox then charge to Manassas for some hardtack and cider along the Mason-Dixon.

The second loop will be led by Billy Tecumseh Sherman toward the rabble of the confederates.  At Shiloh, you can expect a skirmish.  This may be the first time you’ve ever encountered the very people that have destroyed our union. They’re a glittered and tulled militia, horny drunk on champagne and exhaustion. Be careful.

We need a water volunteer!  If at all possible, please bring it in a wooden barrel with a long metal dipper thing to drink out of.  We need to keep this war theme going.
