5/19 - Bags update - 5K race approval - ruck stuff - DRAAAAKEEEE! - Ready right

Our second bag drive went really well and we got people to decorate another 500+ bags for the Smart Lunch Smart Kids project this summer. We're talking with another group now about possibly adding some food to the bags which would act as a Saturday option for the kids. If this happens, you'll know about it. If it doesn't, this is the last you'll ever hear of it...

The PTC application for our race was approved this week! Mark your calendars now! October 27, 2018 is the date and Line Creek Brewery is the place. HNL Runtoberfest 5K is on!

The ruck money we raised a few weeks ago purchased new chairs and chair rack for the American Legion. We delivered the rest of the goods this week and got fed fried chicken. There was public speaking and I felt nervous. Lindsey and Matt Rusk killed it. Matt took me to drink beer after and I felt better. The End.

All the loops are at Drake! Need some leadership! I'll be in Memphis and I will miss you all dearly.

Bodies ready mind right - READY RIGHT! Hotlanta Half is coming up on June 10 and we need volunteers! If you can volunteer handing out water in your fresh HNL shirt, let me know or sign up on the FB event I created.

5/5 Cinco de Mayo run – shirts – slow ride – spreading kindness

Happy May! Got a few things going on this weekend. All you need to know is here.

Shirts will be ordered tonight! If you still haven’t ordered, I’ve opened the forms again so you can finally get this done!

Here is the tee option: https://www.customink.com/g/nvv0-00bd-7vfh

Here is the tank option: https://www.customink.com/g/nvv0-00bd-6jjd

Tonight we’re getting down with a slow ride. Show up at Big Daddy’s before 6:30 and you won’t get left behind. We’ll decide where to go after everyone gets a chance to vote. Could be a late night. Don’t be scared. Bring a helmet, bring a light, don’t be dumb.

Tomorrow morning HNL is hosting a kindness event at Glenloch. Leslie came up with this awesome idea and we’ll be getting it done between 8:30 and 11:00 on the grassy area near the soccer fields. We’ll be decorating lunch bags for the Smart Lunch Smart Kid program which will be filled with food and delivered to kids throughout the summer. It’s a great opportunity for us to get out in the world and spread some of that HNL goodness. We’ve got the markers and bags, we just need people to come by and make some art or write a kind message on the bags. Please bring your kids out and make a few! Show love HNL!

The new www.hnlinc.org site is up! We’re loving it and you should too! Thanks to 48in48 and Slalom Consulting for their hard work. We really appreciate you!

Run info – We’re at Drake

In honor of Cinco de Mayo, we’ll have four 5K loops starting at 6:30. Don’t hold us to the exact 8 and 830 start times. Somebody bring salsa and funny hats!

6:30 – 30 min

7:30 – 30 min

8:00 – 30 min

8:30 – 30 min

That’s all for now! See you tonight and tomorrow and again tomorrow! Love you, bye.

PS New episode of the Dave and Josh podcast coming soon. If you love snacks and chewing sounds, you'll love this episode. Order the complete Dave and Josh podcast bundle as an early Christmas present!

4/28 SHIRTS – 48in48 – American Legion – Slow ride Friday

Everybody be sweet and don’t be weird. We’ve got guests reading along today.

If you have not ordered your HNL swag, please get this done ASAP! I’m shutting down the order next weekend so we can get this sweet swag on the streets. If you are ordering from Boston, I’ll ship them to you with some HNL extras!

Here is the tee option: https://www.customink.com/g/nvv0-00bd-7vfh

Here is the tank option: https://www.customink.com/g/nvv0-00bd-6jjd

Boston? Yes. Boston. HNL was fortunate to be chosen to participate in the 48in48 hackathon where web designers, developers, and project managers gather for a 48-hour event to build 48 websites for non-profits (48in48.org). When I applied for this event, I assumed (if chosen) we’d be at the Atlanta event in Fall 2018. Well, I was wrong. HNL is going to be the proud new owners of a legit corp website by the end of this weekend! The team creating our site comes from Slalom, a Seattle based consulting company full of technologists and badasses. They will be delivering a truckload of legitimacy to our organization and we’re really grateful for their help.

So, HNL will finally have a place to send people who want to know what HNL is about. Runhnl.com is not going anywhere, it’s still going to be the place for the run info and run on sentences. HNL needed a place to point donors and customers to learn more about the organization and what we're about. Hell, some of you reading this are thinking, “just what are we about, anyway?” I know. It can be a mess sometimes but the process of creating content for the 48in48 event has been a really good thing for us. HNL, Inc. is the umbrella all the HNL projects fall under. The URL for our new site is www.hnlinc.org and we should see something there soon. Thanks to Megan and the rest of the Slalom team for hooking us up. We had a great conversation today about HNL and I’m so excited to see what they come up with. BTW, they told me that they might call at odd hours over the next 48 so I gave them David’s number.

I’m trying to get this out quick so I can meet Rob at Sam’s to pick up the chairs for the American Legion. The ruck raised enough to meet all the chair needs so now we will load them up and eat hotdogs before we deliver them to the Legion this afternoon. If you want a Sam’s hotdog, HMU and I’ll keep it in the car till tomorrow.

DO NOT MISS THE SLOW RIDE! Next Friday we’ll meet at Big Daddy’s for a slow ride. We’re not staying there! We’ll drink a beer and vote/fight on where to go next. There will be margaritas and beer consumed. Get your mind right and get out there with us. There is a FB event set up on our FB page. Please hit the going button so we know how many bail bondsmen to retain. Bring your mouthguard and keep your damn hands up this time.

Tomorrow we’ll have two options both from Drake. Be there!

6:30 – 60 min

7:35 – 30 min

Front to backs and all that. All paces welcome and nobody left behind! Let’s get after it!

4/21 – Follow the clues. Shirts ready for order! Short option first. RUCK SUCCESS!

No excuses not to come out tomorrow! Come out of the shadows, tomorrow is a great day for beginners. There are two options but they both start at 6:30 from Drake. Short option is first. Tomorrow’s route will run point to point following clues created just for you! Each clue is a group effort and the group has to stick together so do lots of front to backs so we don’t leave anyone behind. Be at Drake tomorrow morning at 6:30 where the first clue will be delivered by helicopter.

We’ve got some shirt options for you. Click the links below for the tee and tank order links. The tee has both regular and v neck with some color options. The tank has three different color options.

Here is the tee option: https://www.customink.com/g/nvv0-00bd-7vfh

Here is the expensive v neck option: https://www.customink.com/g/nvv0-00bd-7vw5

Here is the tank option: https://www.customink.com/g/nvv0-00bd-6jjd

Please get these ordered in the next two weeks! The form may tell you that there is plenty of time but I’m thinking of closing the order on May 1. If you can think of a reason not to end it then, let me know!

The ruck last weekend was a massive success! We’re in the process of ordering new chairs for the American Legion.  Thanks to Lindsey and Matt for doing all the work in getting the ruck going. Thanks to Tania for standing on the dry land and filming the river crossing. Next year we’re going to make this a bigger event. Get your minds right for the next ruck. It’s so much fun.

HNL is slated to meet with the PTC Special Events Team in a few weeks. Keep your fingers crossed they like us.

HNL is going to have a 4th of July parade entry. Not sure if this will be a float or a roving gang of misfits but we need help. Let me know if you’re willing to help. This will be a great event!

Don’t forget the Fayette Celebrity Dancers event on May 12. If you’re willing to volunteer at the event as a door greeter, please let me know. We need a few people to volunteer! fayettecelebritydancers.com if you can’t make it, do the Jailhouse 5K that same night and let us know what you liked and didn’t like.

4/14 BUSY DAY!!!

60 degrees at the start tomorrow....60! It's going to be one hell of a day at sea!

The run is first. We'll have two loops and all paces are always welcome. Get your mind right, come out and join the insanity. We'll do 70 min then 30. Drake is the start location and it would be really great if we could fill up the parking lot and take a group photo at 7:45. I'll have magnets if you want to purchase one or if you're a Smerka and you're owed two! Suck it up, buttercups!

Ruck is next. We'll meet at PTC Kmart (AKA Crosstown Baghdad) for a 10:00 AM start. We're rucking for the local VFW so if you can, click here and help us buy them some new furniture: https://2018-hnl-ruck-march.cheddarup.com Lindsey and Matt do a great job of coordinating this each year and this one is no exception. It'll be a tough day so get your mind right. Come with a pack containing 20% of your body weight. It will take us about 3.5 to 4 hours to ruck the ruck loop so embrace the suck and come walk through the muck like a schmuck duck in a truck run amok.  BRING DRY CLOTHES AND SHOES IN YOUR PACK if you wish to suffer less. There will be water involved. It's for a good cause and there is beer involved so be there! Half ruck of 2 hours is an option if you want it.

Nap follows the ruck. Since we finish at Rusk's house, we're all going to pile into his bed and get snugged up for an old fashioned group nap. The California twin at the Rusk compound has held up to 17 mother ruckers in the past so let's break some records. Packs and shoes are to be left outside for the dogs to chew on.

Race update! Massive shoutout to Lindsey, Melissa, Izzy, and Julie who have been working hard this week to keep us moving in the right direction! Thanks for your work, ladies! We've got a complete permit and we'll be submitting soon so keep your fingers crossed. There is a race in Hampton coming up: https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=51251 which you need to sign up for. They appear to be near experts on what we're shooting for so register and we'll head out to do some "research".  Thanks to Geoff for finding that race!

Really want to do a hash or slow ride next week. If you've got ideas let me know tomorrow. This weather is too perfect to miss an opportunity to drink beer at dawn...or on a bike......or on a bike at dawn.

Last thing. C25K v2.0. We're doing another couch to 5K program to get some of our lurkers back out onto the paths. We'll start the program the Saturday after school gets out and we'd like to encourage kids to be part of the program. Start talking this up and recruiting! Running is a great way to get healthy and we need to spread the love that is hot and humid summer runs! Sure would be great to get some leaders involved in leading some of the C25K runs. Need some help here!

Drake is the place tomorrow. Bring $5 for a magnet. HNL tees and tanks will be available for order at the end of next week!

6:30 - 70 min loop

7:45 - Group photo

7:50 - 30 min loop

4/7 and 4/8 options!

Soooooooo the forecast for tomorrow looks pretty solid on rain. We're going to have two days worth of run options this weekend so you can choose which version of weather you prefer to run long in. We need some leadership on Saturday! Sunday is handled.

Saturday 6:30 - 75 min
               7:50 - 30 min

Sunday 6:30 - 75 min
             7:50 - 30 min

3/31 Spring perfection! Sunrise loop. Ruck info. Cool stuff in April!

Thanks to the Runtoberfest 5K race planners for meeting last night and hashing out some important details. If anybody has a conference room we can borrow, we’re going to meet Monday at 11 to work on the city permit. Anybody is welcome to join. If you’ve got a conference table, we need it for about 90 min. Let me know.

Weather should be dry and cool for the am loops. Gonna have a badass sunrise loop at 7:30 so get your cameras ready. There will be two 60 min loops tomorrow and the second loop will have a 30 min option. All are welcome and encouraged to get out of your bed and get to work!

Don’t forget the ruck we’ve got going on in about two weeks. These are always a great experience for a good cause. In addition to raising awareness about veteran suicide prevention, we’re looking out for the local VFW as well. Please check out the FB event and let us know you’ll be there so we can buy enough, uh, water.

Now that spring is here and other important milestones that come with April, we’re going to step up the extracurricular activities so BOLO for slow rides and maybe a hash run!

Here’s the tomorrow info from Drake:

6:30 – 60 min

7:30 – 60 min (30 min option)

See you in the morning!

Springtime! Fayette Celebrity Dancers! Runtoberfest 5K!

Happy spring! Thanks so much for the gift cards last week, we collected over 30 of them and the family was blown away by your generosity. If you didn’t get a car magnet, they cost $5….cash money. Tomorrow we’re gonna meet at Drake for two loops. The couch to 5K group finished their program last week to everyone is on the same schedule and routes. If you know of anyone interested in participating in the C25K program, we’ll have another one soon. Perhaps a C25K program would be good for the kids starting after school gets out?

We’re gonna need your help soon…HNL is the recipient of a grant from Realtors Caring for Fayette this year! We’re helping them to promote an event on May 12, 2018 – Fayette Celebrity Dancers. Fayettecelebritydancers.com Please do what you can to promote this event on social media so they can sell tickets. It’s an awesome group of people and we really appreciate their donation to HNL!

The race planning has really gotten off to a great start. We’re waiting on some permitting from PTC before we go worldwide but the plan is for HNL to host The Runtoberfest 5K at Line Creek Brewing on 10/27/2018. This has been something we’ve wanted to do for quite some time and your race committee is hard at work to make it happen. We’re raising money to send deserving kids to summer camp. While we live in an affluent community, there are some kids who don’t get to experience the awesomeness of camp because it’s expensive. If your family struggles to make ends meet, extras like summer camp are not even a consideration. The independence and resiliency kids learn from camp combined with the relationships and inclusion they experience is a pretty special gift. We’ll choose the kids, they choose the camp, families feel the HNL love. This is going to be an epic event for a great cause. Stay tuned for more soon!

Here is the info for tomorrow:

6:30 -73.61 min – Led by Geoff!

7:45 – 30 min - Led by Izzy!

Much love HNL!

Shamrock 10K - GIFT CARDS DUE - Suck it up

Tomorrow is race day and it’s supposed to rain. This is not a problem. We have some great stuff happening with HNL these days and we can’t let a little rain deter us! If you’ve not yet done so, please hit the Shamrock 10K Facebook page and let us know what you’re bringing! Dee is graciously providing her patio, beer, OJ, and champagne. We’ll be collecting those gift cards tomorrow for the family burned out of their home. You will need a gift card in hand to get the HNL swag! Cards are going to the family on Monday! After today the HNL swag will be available for purchase. If you cannot make it tomorrow, we will come to your house and get the card and leave the gift. Email your address: fcs4507@gmail.com and you’ll be on the list. Try and come out even if you can’t run, it’ll be fun!

Race starts at 7:00! 30 min warmup run loop at 6:30. 5K turnaround is on the course. There will not be any front to backs so KNOW THE ROUTE! Rain will probably wash the markings away so KNOW THE ROUTE! Here’s the good news, the course is easy to memorize! Just think Flat Creek and the lake.

Here’s the basics: Ga. Shrimp to Flat Creek Trail all the way around to Northlake Drive. Use the pedestrian bridge behind Partners then go down hip pocket and around the lake. Once you get around the lake, take the tunnel under at Peachtree City Conference Center and up the hill to the finish in front of Fresh Market! Easy! 5Kers turn around on Flat Creek when you encounter the HNL sign and you’re good! Everyone stay on the paths! Use the tunnels and bridges! We’ll have a warmup 30 min run at 6:30 for anyone interested. 6:30 SHARP!!! Here is a map:
